I got the lovely opportunity to hang out at the Handsome Daughter on Friday, January 23rd, to enjoy and photograph some of my favourite local bands, as well as new artists from across Canada.

The evening consisted of two shows: one early show and one late show. With the early sets being a quick 20 minutes each, the audience had the chance to get a little teaser of every artist. Show Pony started us off, bringing the energy and heat and instantly making people want more. With their enticing stage presence and heavy bangers, they set the tone for the night. Following them was Mitchell Makoons and his band, delivering a rock-and-country twist. This was my first time seeing him play, and I adored the group! Closing out the early show was Neighbour Andy, bringing catchy guitar riffs and an overall playful vibe. All three early artists absolutely smoked it out of the park, and I honestly wish their sets were longer

The late show kicked off with French Class, an electric dance-pop group who opened with tunes that made you want to dance around with your friends. I loved their hints of cat-themed songs and merch, along with the guitar player’s guitar covered in cat stickers (like, come on so cute). Sean Nicholas Savage took the stage next, giving the crowd incredible indie rock ballads. His vocals were big and resonant, with a lot of expressive movement. The blue lighting throughout really set the mood. Lastly, Jane Inc was lucky enough to make it in despite a delayed flight, and still put on a playful, dancey show that brought the audience to their feet. The whole room was moving, as her solo performance truly spoke for itself.
